Aaron’s tailgate picks

When it comes to tailgating, I often stick to the classics: the perfect gameday bourbon, a bright gin and tonic or a spicy Bloody Mary.
But, as anyone who’s pregamed in the Grove knows, the sky truly is the limit.

No matter you and your tailgating crew’s drink of choice, High Cotton has a wide variety of spirits and mixers to ensure your tent is well stocked. Here are just a few of my favorites.

Best Value Buys

Plantation 3 Stars Rum: This well-balanced white rum is a great quality liquor that works well for simple cocktails, such as a TK.

Lunazul Tequila: This 100% agave tequila is smooth and
well-balanced. It’s an affordable option for your tent that works well for pre-mixing batch cocktails.

Cathead Honeysuckle: Everyone loves this Mississippi-made spirit. It’s a versatile, small-batch vodka infused with
natural honeysuckle flavor.

Four Roses Yellow Label : What’s the Grove without a good bourbon? Four Roses Yellow Label is a quality drink for
a great price. Keep friends and passersby alike satisfied
without breaking the bank.

Best Mixers

Walker’s Southern Bloody Mary Mix
Walker’s is a vegetarian Bloody Mary mix made of several unique ingredients, including Bourbon Barrel Aged Worcestershire, blackstrap molasses and creole mustard. It’s a great way to start any Saturday in autumn — especially when there’s an early kickoff.

El Guapo Salted Paloma Mixer
This mixer is one of my favorites from the New Orleans-based
El Guapo Bitters. It makes mixing easy — simply pour it over
2 oz of tequila for the perfect Salted Paloma.

Mixology at Home

If you’re looking for a crowd-pleasing cocktail for your tailgate that’s also easy to make, try the Gold Rush.
It's a whiskey-laced twist on a Bee's Knees.

Recipe:
Mix together 2 ounces bourbon, ¾ ounces freshly squeezed lemon juice and ¾ ounces honey syrup.

Note: You can make the honey syrup by combining
1 cup water with 1 cup honey in a small saucepan
over medium heat until honey is dissolved. Stir constantly.
Be sure to cool before using.
